What is the Folsom Piss Pool? It’s Exactly What You Think

The Folsom Street Fair is a BDSM event held during September in San Francisco. It started in 1984 and is now one of California’s largest (single day) outdoor events.

What makes it different from other BDSM events?

Aside from being enormous and in public (sort of), the origins started within the gay, BDSM, and leather community. Leather is material of choice. You can wear anything you want (even normal street clothes), but be prepared for plenty of black animal skin and tons of metal … oh and lots of exposed dicks.

“The crowd at Megahood ’84 was described by Drummer magazine as “several hundred SoMa leathermen sticking their skeptical heads out of the bars to jaywalk, drink, and piss-play with attitude.”

But what is the piss pool?

First, it’s important to understand some of the kinks within the BDSM culture – specifically piss play (aka water sports or golden showers). This humiliating/dominating (and consensual) play isn’t for everyone, but there are plenty who love it.

And since it’s allowed during the event, you’ll see plenty of men spraying yellow streams on happy subs on their knees. Wet spots on the pavement were everywhere.

SIDE NOTE: No sex, brown play, or blood play is allowed during the fair.

You can, however, imagine a problem with this.

It’s not the kink (to each their own), it’s the mess and the smell. Add that to possibly warm weather and it can be very yucky for some people.

Seeing a very real need for public cleanliness, the “House of Black Dragon”, in cooperation with the Yellow and Black Group, set up a tent with a kiddy pool and the following rules…

  • Anyone can climb in, dressed any way they want.
  • Climbing in = consent to be pissed on.
  • Photo-shy?  Loaner hoods are available.
  • Pee-shy?  Take your time; piss pigs are very patient.
  • Not used to standing up?  Ask for a disposable “female urination device”.
  • Please limit your time in the pool to one hour at a stretch.
  • Keep the piss in the pool and off the street.
  • We discourage body contact during piss play (i.e. no “sex”, please).
  • No shit.
  • Have fun!

After the fair is over, they dispose the the many gallons of yellow fun into the Portopotties – therefore keeping the streets and fair grounds clean! Yes, there are still people who don’t use the pool, but it can be a huge help.

The final useful thing?

If you can’t find a place to pee, well, there will always be at least one location without a line!

I know some readers might still be gagging, and that’s okay. But even you had to admit that it’s a clever solution. And don’t forget the other big rule – if you don’t want to see it, just walk away and don’t watch.
